Meet Annie
I’ve always loved to write. Now, I write about love.
Annie Sherwood (she/her) is an avid romance reader turned aspiring romance author. She reads 1 – 10 books a week, mostly contemporary romance, although she will read anything from any genre and loves getting lost in nonfiction as a way to learn more about the world.
Annie’s first writings were fan fiction, starting with Starsky and Hutch fan fiction in junior high after watching a particularly suspenseful episode, and continuing to include other TV series universes such as Law & Order, Homicide: Life on the Streets, The X-Files, and Picket Fences. She also spent a lot of time immersed in the world of Lord of the Rings, writing an ongoing sweeping epic with an original character who became entangled with the Fellowship. Writing fan fiction allowed Annie to delve more deeply into the characters in a particular universe and examine the human condition within the confines of a specific, well-crafted world. She came to truly appreciate good writing, within both screenplays and novels, as a result.
While Annie has always enjoyed writing for her own amusement, she found herself becoming more and more interested in learning about story structure, plotting/outlining, and all the other conventions that good writers know, instinctively or otherwise. After reading books such as Debra Dixon’s Goals, Motivation, and Conflict and James Scott Bell’s Plot & Structure: Techniques and Exercises for Crafting a Plot That Grips Readers from Start to Finish, she decided to try her hand at writing original works that she could share with the world. She joined The Write Practice‘s One Year to Publish program in June 2021 and is currently working on her first novel under their guidance.
